The Frog Princess: The 1st African-American Disney Princess

Finally, and wheres the latin princess, btw? One step at a time.

Disney's The Frog Princess, due in 2009, will tell the story of Maddy, a young girl living in the french quarter of 1920s New Orleans. Jazz era! woo hoo, this better mean good disney music. Thankfully, the higher-ups have chosen to continue the tradition of classic 2D animation, i was worried for a bit. Maddy joins the ranks of 8 other disney princesses, with prince Jasmine being the first non-white disney character, followed by Pocahontas and Mulan.

Characters Will Include:

  • Maddy - A 19-year-old chambermaid.
  • Charlotte La Bouff - A 18-year-old spoiled, southern Debutante and Diva.
  • Dr. Duvalier - An African American Voodoo magician/fortune teller. The villain of the movie.
  • Mama Odie - An elderly, 200-year-old Voodoo priestess/fairy god-mother. [seriously, voodoo priestess? oh Disney...]
  • Ray - A lovesick Cajun firefly. [amazing :)]
  • Louis - A Jazz singer alligator.
  • Prince Harry - A gregarious, fun-loving European Prince, in his early twenties.
  • Lawrence - Prince Harry's pompous valet.
  • Big Daddy La Bouff - Wealthy, Southern plantation landowner and father of Charlotte La Bouff. [AKA Whitey]
  • Eudora - Maddy's mother. In her fifties. Used to be Charlotte's nurse maid.
  • George - The La Bouff family's cook.
  • Little Arila - Maddy's little sister. She's little, but very smart.
